Fact-Check: Did Any Of The Dubai Returnees Died Of Covid-19 Complications As Claimed By Lagos State Commissioner For Health ?

Confusion has been mixed with reality as one of Dubai returnees allegedly died of covid-19 complications.

Lagos State Commissioner for Health announced earlier that the deceased died of coronavirus while other returnees protested against the claim. The returnees said their member's death was as a result of negligence and poor treatment by the government.

To find out the truth behind this, SalientReporters has gathered from a reliable source that the returnee's death was not in connection with coronavirus.

This fact appeared on Lagos State Commissioner for Health, Prof. Akin Abayomi's official handle where he retracted his first claim.

According to Prof. Akin Abayomi, " I hereb inform the general public that the Nigerian who recently returned from Dubai as part of group of returnees who were placed in a Covid-19 isolation program in Lekki developed complications and was transfered to one of our facilities where he died"

Lagos State health commissioner added that because of the sudden nature of his death and without any prior knowledge of his multiple preexisting conditions, it was presumed to be a covid- 19 related death.

Prof Abayomi therefore admitted the error in his announcement and  said the definitive Covid-19 gold standard test has returned out to be negative for the Covid-19 infection and the Dubai returnee's  death is no longer considered to have been attributed to Covid-19 as announced before.

SalientReporters in her tweet to respond Lagos State Commissioner advised the personnel to always make proper findings and ascertain results appropriately before feeding the masses as  fake information like this is misleading and unprofessional.
