FG Embraces Health Sector Union, Neglects ASUP, NASU Over Salary Irregularities
The Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics had earlier issued a warning to Federal Government of Nigeria on the irregularities inherent in Integrated Personnel and Payroll Information Management (IPPIS).
The Union complained about the new system of payment which has not been friendly with polytechnic workers in a press release signed by the Union's secretary. In the release, the Union stressed that staff across the polytechnics always receive salaries in second week of successive months without payslips. More so, the Union complained about the omissions, underpayments, lack of implementation among other problems marring the new system.
For the fact that the grievances tendered by ASUP, NASU can usher in strike action which can further affect Nigerian students that have already lost one semester to Coronavirus outbreak, the Federal government has not officially responded the Union.
Meanwhile, the speaker of the House of Representatives has intervened in the planned strike action by the Joint Health Sector Union and the Assembly Healthcare Professionals ( JOHESU), over issues of irregularities in salary payment among others. These were the similar issues raised by the Academic Unions without getting response from the Government.
As a matter of fact, the education and health sectors are the most relevant sectors in Nigeria that should be well financed without hindrance. The negligence of the Federal Government towards developing these sectors have placed Nigeria on a weak tripod today in the process of handling the pandemic virus.
