After the discovery of the new drug for the current pandemic, the World Health Organization (WHO) has called for an increase in production of dexamethasone on Monday.
After undergoing series of trial in the United Kingdom, the drug dexamethasone has been lauded by Scientist as a game changer in the cure of persons critically ill with covid-19.
WHO boss, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, in a virtual news conference, said that the demand for the drugs had already increased.
About 2,000 patients were given the drug by Oxford University researchers and it reduced deaths by 35 percent among the most sickly.
“Although the data are still preliminary, the recent finding that the steroid dexamethasone has life-saving potential for critically ill COVID-19 patients gave us a much-needed reason to celebrate.
“The next challenge is to increase production and rapidly and equitably distribute dexamethasone worldwide, focusing on where it is needed most,” Tedros said.
