Covid-19 Effect On IGR, Kwara Govt. Laments


The Covid-19 pandemic has spurred lamentation as a result of dwindling Internal Generated Revenue ( IGR) in Kwara State.

The government expressed dissatisfaction occasioned by coronavirus on Thursday after the inauguration of the technical committee for the state consolidation of revenue codes and rates. Speaking with journalists in Ilorin, the state commissioner for Finance and Planning, Mrs Olasumbo Oyeyemi and the Executive Chairman of the state Internal Revenue Service (KWIRS), Mrs Shade Omoniyi said that the IGR has dwindled in recent time and has called for a dire need to re-strategise the state's finances and revenue generated modules when the normalcy returns.


Further more, commissioner added that the state is currently tilting its spending to match with available resources in the face of sinking IGR and allocation from Abuja meanwhile, the revenue generated from pay as you earn ( PAYE) of the civil servants could not allow the agency to meet up with its average monthly target of #2.6 billion.


Mrs Oyeyemi however stated that the Technical Committee members were selected based on their role and relevance to Committee larger purpose.
