IPPIS Irregularities: ASUP Sends Warning To 'FG' As Nationwide Post Pandemic Strike Looms.

The Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics has expressed dissatisfaction over irregularites occasioned by Integrated Personnel and Payroll Information System ( IPPIS).

IPPIS is a new system introduced by Federal Government through Office of the Accountant General of the Federation to pay salaries of workers in all Federal  tertiary institutions in Nigeria.

Meanwhile, the new system of payment since February has not been friendly with the polytechnics' staff across the country.

However, the stand of the Union was made known in a press release signed by  Secretary General, Shammah S. Kpanja on 15th of May, 2020. A copy of the release sent to SalientReporters revealed the negligence of the Federal Government to cater for the Union's  grievances as Polytechnics' Staff across the country always receive salaries  in second week of successive months without payslips while the  payments made were greeted with omissions, underpayments,  lack of implementation of promotions  and annual increments, lack of third party deductions, unacceptable tax rates and mutilations in allowances.

Furthermore, the Secretary General said as at 15th of May, only one Federal Polytechnic's workers  received salaries  in April without allowances while  the remaining Federal Polytechnics were left to contend with selective payments of April salaries to staff.

According to him,  " In some of the polytechnics, the situation is as bad as  80% of staff  yet to be paid their April salaries and explanations from responsible Government's agency as regards to this unusual irregularities remain incoherent and unsatisfactory to the Union."

ASUP Union,  before considering nationwide post pandemic strike charged  the Federal Government to return the Union back to the former system of payment or resolve the challenges associated with payment of salaries in Federal Polytechnics in the country.

" This demand reinforces our Union's 97th National Executive Council resolution of March, 2020 to withdraw the services of members nationwide if the challenges  associated with payment of salaries in Federal Polytechnics amongst other challenges are not resolved in a sustainable manner. The nation should therefore hold the government responsible for any eventual post pandemic shut down of the system as ample time has been given for a rectification of the challenges identified and communicated to the government." He added.
