Lagos Doctors Commence Indefinite Sit At Home Strike
The Chairman and Secretary of Nigeria Medical Association (NMA), Lagos State chapter has signed a joint statement to issue and indefinite sit at home directive to its members starting from , 6.00pm on Wednesday.
This decision according to NMA was borne out of incessant harassment of healthcare workers in Lagos by security agents and also because of conflicting directives by state government and law enforcement agents on status of workers on essential services which includes doctors and other health workers.
According to NMA leader, " We resolve that all doctors under the auspices of the Nigerian Medical Association in Lagos to proceed on a sit at home strike starting from 6.00pm today, May 20, indefinitely.
"The NMA, Lagos State Branch has realised that it is unsafe for its members to continue to provide healthcare services under the present confused arrangement."
NMA leader further stressed that the association will reposition its stand when the state government and the Commissioner of Police are clear on how they wish to run the lockdown and restriction of movement directive as it relates to essential service providers.
The NMA therefore requested for a written statement which would be signed by the state government and police authorities with clear terms on the status of essential services including healthcare providers should be issued and be advertised in the social and mainstream media with a copy submitted to the Secretariat of the Lagos State branch of NMA.
