New Machines Made In FEDPOFFA To Prevent The Spread Of Covid-19
After the breakthrough of 3-in-1 solar powered hand sanitizing machines invented by the Department of Science Technology of the Federal Polytechnic Offa, the Mechanical Engineering Department of the institution has also invented new sets of manual hand washing and sanitizing machines to prevent the spread of Coronavirus.
Following the Federal Government directive to all institutions to make adequate provisions for preventive materials ahead of resumption, the management of the institution has been laying hands on deck to invent different machines to wage war against the deadly virus.
It could be recalled that the Polytechnic has produced hand sanitizer, liquid soap, antiseptic disinfectant, face masks en- mass for the Polytechnic and host communities. The institution has also produced Solar Automated Fumigation System, Solar Powered Sound Automated Pee Toilet System, Hand-Clap-Switch Solar Powered Hand-Rub Ultraviolet ( UV) Wave Sanitizer System and Solar Automated Hand Wash Sanitizer.
The new manual machines invented were Hand washing and Sanitizing machines ( HWSM 01 and HWSM 02)
The Head of Department of Mechanical Engineering, Engr. Samuel O. Ogundele while presenting the machines to the management said that the machines are manual and completely made in The Federal Polytechnic Offa. He added that Covid-19 is a storm that has come to teach mankind inventions and innovations. Engr. Ogundele explained further that the 'HWSM 01' is a portable machine that has its own water reservoir at the top. It has three peder, a press on each labelled peder will dispense soap, water and sanitizer sequentially. The HWSM 02 on the other hand can be connected with any external source of water. It does not possess its own reservoir. He stressed further that the two machines have soap and sanitizer hidden inside the machine to prevent user from contacting the virus in case the machine has been used by a carrier.
The Rector of the Federal Polytechnic Offa, Dr. Lateef Olatunji commended the relentless efforts of various departments of the polytechnic to contain the spread of Covid-19. In his remarks, reference was made to Machines invented by Science Laboratory Technology Department and how it has projected the Polytechnic as fastest growing technologically and number 1 in innovation through the several media coverage. He acknowledged the technical team of Mechanical Engineering Department for responding to the challenges facing the world. While unveiling the machines, Dr. Olatunji expressed satisfaction with the level of unity and progress in the polytechnic and assured the polytechnic community of the management support to sustain the progressive tempo. He said: " On behalf of the management, staff and students of The Federal Polytechnic Offa, I want to sincerely appreciate the Mechanical Engineering Department Technical Team for coming up with another state of the earth inventions to prevent the spread of covid-19. You have done brilliantly with your HWSM 01 and 02. These inventions are preparing us ahead of resumption. I want to assure you that we will mass produce and commercialised them. This is highly commendable."
The Dean, School of Engineering and Technology, Engr. M.A Anifowose lauded the management for creating enabling environment for research and innovation. He said: " The Chief Executive Officer and the management team have created an environment that is very conducive for academic development and that is why we are having these kind of innovations coming-up. When there is trust, peace and tranquility, people will be able to do their best and our best is yet to come in the School of Engineering Technology."
