Bale Inspires Tottenham As Leicester City Doom To Europa League

Badmus Abdulsobur

Leicester will have to settle for the Europa League for a second successive season as Tottenham end their Champions League dreams. Leicester must have thought they had the win in the bag after Vardy put them 2-1 up with his second penalty of the game.

Schmeichel's unfortunate own goal swung the momentum in Spurs' favour, and Bale twisted the dagger with his two goals at the end.

Bale has become just the third player to score more than 10 goals in a Premier League season after appearing for less than 1,000 minutes, joining famous super subs Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Javier Hernandez.

It's the first time he's scored two goals as a substitute since he did it for Real Madrid in the 2018 Champions League final.

Leicester finish fifth in the final Premier League table then as they finish just a point behind Chelsea.

Chelsea lost 2-1 to Aston Villa in the end but they'll be delighted that Tottenham did them a favour.

Spurs' win means they pip Arsenal to seventh and creep into the inaugural Europa Conference League.

After the tumultuous season they've had, they'll have to be content with that outcome.
