Feeding Children At Home Is Accepted Internationally And Not A Scam- FG
Following the criticisms leveled against the Federal Government's home grown feeding program, the Honourable Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Develoment, Hajia Sadiya Farouq has cleared the critics that the program is internationally accepted and not a scam.
She defended the Federal Government's decision to spend N679m on the programme in Lagos at St.Francis Primary School in Maryland.
The Minister who was represented by the Director of National Commission for Refugees, Immigrants and IDPs, Mrs Margret Ukaegbu said" feeding children at home is an internationally accepted practice to check food insecurity and malnutrition among vulnerable people. Countries like Liberia, South Africa were feeding children amidst closure; so the idea of take home rations neither peculiar to Nigeria nor a scam."
Also speaking, Special Assistant to President Buhari on National Home Grown School Feeding Program ( NHGSFP), Mrs. Titilola Adeyemi said the available resources could not cover a households with pupils in primary 1-3 across public schools, therefore 37, 589 households were selected out of 112, 767 pupils benefitting from the school feeding programme in Lagos State and the team engaged the community to formulate the definition of vulnerable to ensure fairness in the distribution.
Among the Local Government that benefited include: Oshodi-Isolo, Kosofe, Somolu and Apapa while the Chairman of Lagos State SUBEB, Wahab Alawiye said the initiative would continue as long as schools remain closed.
